TUBERCULOSIS
Tuberculosis is the fourth highest cause of death in Papua New Guinea and responsible for over 27% of hospital admissions. Hospital data suggests that a large percentage of those inflicted with TB are HIV related. That is, a persons weakened immune system through HIV allows for opportunistic infections like Tuberculosis to take hold. It is important for Employers and Employees to understand Tuberculosis, identify symptoms and seek medical treatment when TB is identified. A person with TB is most likely not HIV positive but this should be considered. Tuberculosis unlike HIV and AIDS is in the vast majority of cases curable by a strict drug regime.
